Steelville’s annual Harvest Festival Celebration will be held September 4-9, and one new addition to the schedule is the fireworks display that was postponed on July 4 due to excessive heat and drought. The yearly festival is sponsored by the Steelville Chamber of Commerce and will include a multitude of family fun for all ages following the theme “Life’s Shining Moments.” Mark your calendars!

The festival will kick off Tuesday, September 4 with the annual car show from 4:30 to 8 p.m., sponsored by the Steelville High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Entry fee will at $15 per car, and all proceeds benefit FBLA. Cars must be registered by August 31 by contacting Lana Mabe at (573) 775-2144. The event will be held at the Main Street parking lot across from the courthouse, and pulled pork sandwiches will be served.
Wednesday, September 5 will host a benefit all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner at Golden Echoes from 5 to 7 p.m. Adults will be charged $6, kids ages 6-12 are $3, and age six and under are free. All proceeds will go to a local charity that has not yet been decided. At 7 p.m., the Meramec Music Theatre will host a community gospel sing featuring local talent. There is no entry fee, and performers interested in taking part need to contact Sharon Hardecke at 775-5688. A love offering for Steelville Ministerial Alliance will be collected.
On Thursday, September 6, the annual Harvest Festival Queen Pageant will take place at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under at the door.
The Steelville Chamber of Commerce will host a BBQ at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 7. Pre-orders for a pork steak or chicken meal should contact Peggy Cardoni at 775-2151. Delivery will be available in Steelville and Cuba. At 8 p.m., the Ozark Trailblazers Rodeo will take place with the Pee Wee Princess contest starting at 7 p.m.
Booths will open on the courthouse lawn Saturday, September 8 at 9 a.m. Those interested in housing a booth should contact Dionne Patrick at (573) 205-4579. The parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Main Street, and entry forms are available from Becky Simpson at 775-2151. The evening will end with the Plummer Family Show at Meramec Music Theatre at 7 p.m. and the Ozark Trail Blazers Rodeo at 8 p.m.
The final day will be a “Celebration at Steelville City Park,” beginning with a live gospel sing from 4 to 6 p.m. Information about the gospel sing can be acquired from Peggy Cardoni at 775-2151. Tickets are on sale for Bessie Bingo, which will take place at 5 p.m., from Valley Becker at (573) 885-2511. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. At 6 p.m., there will be a community wide church service hosted by the Steelville Ministerial Alliance, and the festival will conclude with Fantastic Fireworks presented by the Steelville Area Chamber of Commerce and Showtime Pyrotechnics at 8 p.m.

I've read that experts are expecting the present drought conditions to last
until the end of October. In light of the brush fire that just happened
yesterday, fireworks may not be any more feasible in September than they were in
July. Just a heads-up.
