The St. James Fire Protection District will host a trivia night on January 19 to support former firefighter David Scantlin, who has been diagnosed with leukemia. Held at the St. James VFW, firefighters will provide a wide variety of activities throughout the evening for guests to enjoy.
Beginning at 6 p.m., teams have the opportunity to win a first-place prize of a Remington shotgun, second place will be a $50 gas card, and the third-prize winner will get a $25 gift certificate to Diana’s Diner. “It’s $100 per team of up to 10 people. There is no limit on number of teams, as many as we can fit in (the VFW),” Fire Chief Bruce Parton said. Throughout the evening, a silent auction featuring items donated by local businesses and individuals will be held. A raffle will also be held during the event. All funds raised will be used to help with Scantlin’s medical bills. Items for the silent auction are still being accepting for anyone in the community that would like to help the district support one of their own. Anyone interested in having a team for the event or donating auction items can contact any firefighter or the station at (573) 265-5112, Bruce Parton at 263-1911 or Carl Redburn at 263-1957.
