Steelville has one race for the positions that will be open in April on the city council and the school board. The deadline to file for the election was 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Dave Hatcher filed for another term as city alderman in Ward I and will be unopposed. Incumbent Ward II Alderman Charles Chipman filed for reelection late Tuesday, joining challenger Kerry Koepke on the ballot. And there are two candidates who have filed for the two available seats on the Steelville School Board—Tim Mullen and Will McClain. Filing ended on Tuesday and as of press time, with only two candidates for the two open positions on the school board, no school board election will be held. Mullen and McClain will each serve a three-year term on the board. Expiring seats on the board are currently filled by Melinda Medlock and Mullen. For the city positions, interested parties may still file as a write-in candidate until March 22. Aldermen serve two-year terms. The last day to register to vote or to change voter registration for the April 2 election is March 6.
