Five members of the St. James Red Regiment made it to the Four-Rivers Conference band. There were more than 300 students competing for 100 positions on the band during tryouts held January 9.
This is Dani Klein's third year in the conference band. She made the band on the baritone. Alex Menendez has made it two years on French horn. Garrett Money and Toby Hilkemeyer both made it on baritone. It was the first year for both of them and for Paul Risner on tenor saxophone. The students tried out before a judge and could score up to 120 points on scales, prepared music and sight reading. After results were in, the musicians traveled to St. Clair January 12 for a six-hour practice, a January 14 evening rehearsal, and then two performances during the day on January 15 in St. Clair and Pacific. St. James also had two other students who qualified. Dylan Bond and Josh Reed could not participate due to previously qualifying for district jazz band, along with Tyler Sanders. The jazz performance was scheduled in Waynesville at a conflicting time.
