The August 3 Primary Election is quickly approaching as candidates and voters alike prepare for the big day. This year, there are many county positions that voters will be deciding. From 6 a.m. until 7 p.m., voters will be piling into polling booths to decide the future leaders in the county. Among these positions voters will be deciding are Circuit Judge Circuit 25 Division 2, Associate Circuit Judge Division 1 and Probate, Associate Circuit Judge Division 2, Presiding Commissioner of the County Commission, Clerk of the Circuit Court, County Clerk, Recorder of Deeds, County Treasurer, Prosecuting Attorney, and Collector of Revenue. Don E. Wilson will compete for votes with current Presiding Commissioner Randy Verkamp in the Democratic primary. Bill J. Dobkins is unopposed for the Republican nomination. For Associate Circuit Judge-Division II, John Wiggins is unopposed for the Democratic nomination, while Dean Mathews and Bill Hickle are competing on the Republican ballot. For the position of Prosecuting Attorney, Courtney George and John D. Beger are squaring off in the Republican primary. The winner will be unopposed in November. Robin Kordes and Dena Hope are both Republican candidates for Recorder of Deeds. The winner in that race will also be unopposed in the fall election. Candidates for Associate Circuit Judge-Division 1 and Probate will be Ronald White, Democrat, and Brian Woolley, Republican. Unopposed candidates in this year’s Primary Election include: Sue Brown, incumbent Democrat for County Clerk; Davis R. Haas, incumbent Democrat for Collector of Revenue; and Carol Green, incumbent Republican for County Treasurer. Each candidate was given the opportunity to provide the Saint James Press with an informational piece stating what he or she would bring to the county upon election or reelection. Only Presiding Commissioner candidates responded, with interviews conducted by Staff Writer Chris Daniels.
