Middleton's daughter serves as circuit clerk

The father of a Crawford County elected official was killed in a farm accident in the northern part of the county near Argo on January 19. Retired pastor Rev. Robert Middleton died after sustaining a head injury.

Man returns to jail, gets arrested for crime spree Print E-mail

An Arizona man faces several felony charges after allgedly stealing three vehicles and breaking into a local business, all in one night. Garrett Earnest Phippen, 21, of Chino Valley, Ariz., currently faces two class C felony charges for tampering in the first degree and a class C felony charge for burglary in the second degree. Another tampering charge may be forthcoming.

Senior Tax board picks new officers Print E-mail

Five out of the six current members of the Crawford County Senior Citizens Tax Board met on the morning of January 15 to elect new officers and to prepare a budget for 2013. Don Gummersheimer will serve as the chairman for 2013, Donna Lott vice chairman, Jim Huddleston treasurer and Carol Krassinger secretary.

County budgets $100,000 deficit Print E-mail

Crawford County is looking to spend just over $100,000 more than it will take in for 2013 in General Revenue, according to budget numbers from County Clerk Mardy Leathers, who also serves as the county’s budget officer. But, those figures include the state-mandated emergency fund balance of nearly $90,000 and a county-determined healthcare fund balance of $65,000, so the actual cash balance should end at a little over $40,000. Road and Bridge funds have decent balances and the County Jail fund shows progress, thanks to a change in accounting that provides for a clear picture of expenses and revenues.
