Council approves street closures for Lions car show

Planning for the 2012 Lions Club car show in the historic business district took a step in the right direction on Tuesday with the city council’s approval of street closures in the uptown area. The streets will be closed temporarily to vehicle traffic on the day of the show and will reopen that evening to accommodate restaurants and their patrons. Share

Temm recognized as fireman of the year

Bob Temm has received the year’s top honor among firefighters at the Cuba Volunteer Fire Department. He was chosen by his peers as the 2011 fireman of the year and recognized for his achievement at the department’s annual awards banquet held on Saturday, January 7. Share

Tenn. chemical company buys St. Louis-based Solutia Inc.
A Missouri based specialty chemicals company has been sold for almost $3.4 billion dollars. Solutia Incorporated of Town and County is being bought by Eastman Chemical Company of Kingsport, Tenn. Kansas City visitor numbers up
Kansas City’s Convention and Visitors Bureau sees another indication that the economy is recovering. The bureau says room demand and revenue for hotels in the metro area has been growing for 22 months in a row. Last year 6.6 million rooms were rented, a new record.
