Fall Festival gets under way Wednesday |

The annual Grape and Fall Festival is quickly approaching. Beginning with the Queen Pageant on Wednesday, September 8, the festival will continue through Saturday, September 11 with a myriad of events for area residents to enjoy. This year looks to be the best one yet in St. James, as events for the festival will keep residents busy.

 Taking part in this year’s Miss St. James Pageant on Wednesday will be (front row, from left) Journey Lloyd, Elizabeth Rogers, Ariana Hovel, Gracie Satterfield, McKenzie Bryan, Hannan Salter, Alexis Quick, Kori Jackson, (back row) Kolbie Satterfield, Chase Brookshire, Melissa Daniel, Rachel Fetters and Megan Lohden. Five young ladies are competing to become Miss St. James during this year’s Grape and Fall Festival Queen Pageant, which will be held at Wednesday, Sept. 8, at St. James Middle School. Festivities will get under way at 8 p.m.

Local antique tractor gains national acclaim |

 The Dillon family’s John Deere tractor was one of five John Deeres selected to appear in the Steiner Tractor Parts catalog for 2011. It can also be seen in this year’s Grape and Fall Festival parade on September 11. A locally owned tractor was selected to be in the Steiner Tractor 2011 Parts catalog. After holding a contest for the catalog in which tractor owners sent in pictures and histories of their tractors, only a handful were selected to appear in the magazine and online website.

Elementary school receives funding for two field trips |

The James Foundation has granted Lucy Wortham James Elementary School with two awards that will benefit the fourth graders of the community. On August 26, Assistant Regional Manager of the James Foundation Mark Benton presented fourth grade teachers with community grant money that will be used to send kids to Maramec Spring Park for an annual trip and grant money to take part in the “Arts in the Basic Curriculum” at the St. Louis Art Museum.

LWJ construction crews surprised by electrical manholes |

 Construction crews have now enclosed walkways within Lucy Wortham James Elementary School. Despite setbacks, construction is on schedule and continues to move forward. The St. James Board of Education held a special board meeting last week to discuss a change order that was needed while construction on the Elementary School continues.
