City council approves real estate tax rates |

The St. James City Council held a special public hearing August 26 to allow for citizen input regarding the real estate tax rate, which was followed by a special council meeting. Following the hearing, in which no citizen input was heard, the council moved to pass a proposed ordinance that set the real estate tax rate in the city.

 Local student Megan Fleming had T-shirts designed in honor of her friend Jessica Brinker, who was killed in the bus wreck on August 5. A local student went to great lengths to remember her friend Jessica Rae Brinker. Megan Fleming, following the death of her close friend in the August 5 bus wreck, took it upon herself to design and create T-shirts in memory of Brinker.

Local industry holds fundraiser to help family of late co-worker |

Cohen Architectural Woodworking held a benefit on August 19 to raise money for the family of Jason Hadley, who passed away on August 10. Food donations were given by local businesses and the workers of Cohen volunteered their time to hold a barbeque in honor of their friend and co-worker’s family. Despite being put together in a short amount of time, approximately $1,800 was raised to benefit the four children that he left behind.

PTO deems fundraiser ‘a huge success’ |

 The entrance to St. James Middle School was packed Saturday as local residents turned out to support the PTO in its efforts to raise money for the families of the recent bus wreck. The St. James Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) held a spaghetti dinner and benefit Saturday to raise money for the families impacted by the band bus wreck that occurred on August 5. Held at the Middle School, the event was well attended, being supported not just by the St. James community, but also by visitors from all over the state. So far, totals for funds raised and guests are still being evaluated, but the event is being viewed as a great success for the community.
