I wish to take this opportunity to thank the city council for helping the Tri-County Humane Society Shelter with funding. I personally know how hard it is to keep the no kill shelter operating, since I was on the board there for a long time.

Awhile back, I saw a battle-hardened soldier stationed in Afghanistan as he attempted to respond to a TV news reporter’s interview. He was weeping! Uncontrollably! Embarrassingly! He was not crying for himself, but for the loss of some of his beloved comrades.

We have all seen too many accidents lately, which could have been avoided. It isn’t always the age of the persons driving; it is lack of attention and road rage, and age does not always apply.

Three years ago, after an evening bow hunt, Matt Cook walked out of my woods and into my office and began to describe his hunt. Although he may have over counted the number of points on the one that got away, his story did sound semi-legitimate. He then pitched an idea of forming a football team in Steelville.
