Chief of Police Bo Dildine is recovering, but still in command, following the reported onset of stroke symptoms last week. Paul Crow, speaking to Three Rivers Publishing on behalf of the Cuba Police Department on Monday, said Dildine had suffered a partial stroke and had encountered symptoms of numbness and paralysis to the right side of his body. However, since the initial attack on Sunday, Dec. 20, his condition has improved with each new day. “We fully expect him back in a couple of weeks,” said Crow. “He seems to be getting better, getting stronger day by day. It may take a while for him to return to complete normalcy, but it does look like he’s going to get over this. We are all hopeful about that.” Crow said the chief has been recovering at a St. Clair facility and could be home soon. He will be taking a leave of absence from his duties at the police department until he is ready to return to action. Crow did not know exactly how long Dildine’s absence from duties would be, but he anticipated it to be at least a couple of weeks. Dildine was elected chief of police in April, to fulfill the one year remaining in the term of office vacated by Tim Bailey following his retirement.

Five young ladies are competing to become Miss St. James during this year’s Grape and Fall Festival Queen Pageant, which will be held at Wednesday, Sept. 8, at St. James Middle School. Festivities will get under way at 8 p.m.
This week the staff at Three Rivers Publishing is proud to bring readers of the Cuba Free Press, Saint James Press and Steelville Star-Crawford Mirror our annual “Salute to Locally Owned Businesses.”
Steelville residents Richard Korte and Colon “Butch” Moore attended the 58th Annual Governor’s Ham Breakfast at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia on Aug. 19.
When you have a 100-yard rusher, a 200-yard passer and gain a total of 459 yards, all while holding your opponent to 365 total yards, you would expect to win a football game. The St. James Tigers did just that last Friday night in Cuba, but came up on the short end of a 24-12 final. It was the Tigers first ever loss to the Wildcats in 11 years. (See Photo Gallery)
I wish to take this opportunity to thank the city council for helping the Tri-County Humane Society Shelter with funding. I personally know how hard it is to keep the no kill shelter operating, since I was on the board there for a long time.
