More candidates file in city election before deadline

Four candidates have tossed their name into the hat to become the next mayor of Cuba. Ray Mortimeyer, Faye Howard, Nina Snowden and Jim Bronstad have all filed in the city mayor’s race that will be decided by voters on Tuesday, April 6

Five people have filed candidacies in Cuba’s council races: Dennis Strutman is challenging Pat Shaw and William Cremer have filed for alderman in Ward 1, Dennis Strutman is challenging incumbent Kevin Copling for his Ward 3 seat, and Mary Miller and Nancy Montgomery are in a three-way race with incumbent Maurice Grant in Ward 3.

Annalee Williams and Adelene Voss have filed for Snowden’s vacant seat as city tax collector.

Bo Dildine, currently serving as city police chief but whose one-year special term is set to expire, has filed for reelection to a full term of office. He is running unopposed.

In the Cuba Board of Education election, Alex Steiger and Kathy Herman both have terms that are up. Steiger has re-filed for another term, but Herman has not. Steiger will be joined in the board race by Matt Smith, Angie Britton and William Cremer. Voters will choose two of the four to serve.

In the city of Bourbon, the mayor’s race is shaping up to be a battle of familiar faces: Incumbent Leonard Armstrong has re-filed for his position and will face former mayor Mary Heywood in April.

In Bourbon’s board of aldermen elections Gene Kulaga and incumbent Mark Hilse will square off in Ward 1, while Stanley Bell runs unopposed in his Ward 2 reelection bid.

Three candidates have filed to serve three-year terms on the Bourbon R-1 Board of Education—incumbents Carol Hofstetter, Shannon Radford and challenger David Kline.

The village of Leasburg will hold an election for two one-year terms on the village board of trustees. Filing remains open for that election until Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. Inquire at the village hall during regular business hours.

Two have re-filed for their seats on the board of directors of the North Crawford County Ambulance District. Shawn Karl has re-filed for his seat in District 6 and Steve Kimker re-filed in District 3. They are running unopposed.

The municipal election takes place on Tuesday, April 6. The last day to register or change voter registration information for the election is Wednesday, March 10.
