Kindergarten Information Day will be held Thursday, March 13, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Steelville Elementary School for parents of students who will turn five before August 1.
Children do not need to come to information day. Parents will complete registration paperwork, ask questions, and make appointments for screening after paperwork is complete. Please bring a copy of the child’s birth certificate, immunization records, proof of residency, and a copy of a vision exam by an eye doctor, if one is available.
Kindergarten Screening will be held Thursday, March 27. School staff will be using a different approach this year, hoping to gain better information about future kindergartners.
Kindergarten teachers will be visiting with each student and assessing relevant kindergarten skills. They hope to assess Pre-K and ESCE (Early Childhood Special Education) students the week prior to March 27 to save time on screening day. All other students will be screened March 27.
Parents will participate in administration of a developmental screening that relies on parent responses to questions. Students may be asked to complete some tasks if parents are unsure whether or not they are able to perform that skill. All results will be shared with parents on the day of the screening.
