The Steelville High School senior class and Steelville Star Stream Team are teaming up for a Yadkin Creek Cleanup Day on Good Friday, April 18. The event will begin at 2 p.m. at Hoppe Spring Park.
The public is welcome to come help with the event as the creek is cleaned up just in time for the Yadkin Creek Duck Race, which will be held on Saturday, April 19. The Duck Race will benefit this year’s Project Graduation event for the SHS Class of 2014.
Those planning to attend should come prepared to get their feet wet. Be sure to wear old shoes or rubber boots. The plan is to clean the creek from Hoppe Spring Park all the way to the Steelville Community Park. Anyone who can is also encouraged to bring pickups in order to haul away the trash that cannot be recycled.
The Yadkin Creek Duck Race will begin at 1 p.m. the following day. The race will start at Hoppe Springs Park and finish at the Steelville Community Park. More than $1,000 in cash and prizes will be given to the winners of the individual and corporate duck races.
Ducks are on sale for $5 for individual ducks and $25 for corporate ducks. Ducks can be purchased from any high school senior and at First Community National Bank, Peoples Bank, the Steelville Star, Steelville Drug and Explore Steelville. They will also be available for purchase on the day of the race at Hoppe Springs Park until noon.
