Fredbird coming to Midwest grand opening

    The Midwest Petroleum Travel Plaza in Cuba has recently completed some major upgrades, including a rebranding to Phillips 66, and the company is celebrating with a “Grand Opening Extravaganza” May 5-10. The truck stop will be offering great deals all week, along with events and chances to win some fantastic prizes. Attendees might also run into Fredbird.

    On Monday, May 5, Midwest will offer full service gas pumping from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for noon and there will be drink and food specials throughout the day.
    On May 6, kids up to 10 years old will eat free at Dottie’s Restaurant and there will be balloon animals from 5 to 7 p.m. There will also be a Miller Coors Sampling from 4 to 6 p.m.
    On May 7, visitors to the Travel Plaza will have a chance to meet Route 66 mural artist Ray Harvey and get signed copies of a local mural print. There will also be a St. James Vineyard sampling from 4 to 6 p.m.
    Fredbird will make an appearance in Cuba from 3 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 8. There will be free popcorn for the kids and Peaceful Bend Vineyard will offer samples of its wine form 5 to 7 p.m.
    A Cuba fire truck display is planned from 5 to 7 p.m. on May 9, when there will also be a Landshark Lager vehicle display from 4 to 6 p.m. And on May 10, Midwest will host a craft fair from 8 a.m. to noon and performances by “Elvis” and “Marilyn” from 3 to 6 p.m.
    During the grand opening celebration, the Travel Plaza will be offering free two-liter bottles of soda with six-gallon fuel purchase (limit one per customer) and will be raffling off TVs, tablets, golf bags and mini fridge and more, with all proceeds going to benefit the Cuba High School Key Club.
