Walter Plant will perform in the downtown plaza in St. James on Friday night at the Walker Memorial Pavilion. The show will begin at 7 p.m.
Plant will bring his blend of gospel and country music using four keyboards and his voice to entertain the crowd. Blind since birth, he returns to the area every summer to perform at local churches and organizations
Plant plays his own accompaniment and does not use any prerecorded tracks or CDs throughout his performance. This year, the Forest City Christian Church will host the performance and guests are invited to enjoy a free show at the gazebo. Some seating will be provided, but guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and set up on Washington Street to enjoy a night of free entertainment.
Plant was born in 1952 in Corpus Christi, Texas and raised in the coastal blend area. Born blind, he was immersed in gospel music. Plant fell in love with it and began playing the piano at age 5. He quickly became enamored with playing piano for his home church. His family would later buy a piano for Plant and he formed a band with some teenagers in the area. Plant now tours solo, sharing his music to encourage others.
