The city of Steelville has declined the proposal from Michael Conaway, president of Circle C Bottling Company, to purchase the former San Val building that is now owned by the city. Mayor Terry Palmer reported the city determined not to pursue the proposal because Conaway has a delinquent utility account with the city dating back to 2008.
Rally begins in Steelville Friday
Rally cars will race into Steelville this week as drivers and teams from all over the world gather for the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood. This is the second race of the Rally America National Championship series, and will take place in Steelville and the surrounding area Friday and Saturday. This event will feature some of the most popular action sports drivers competing for a win on the local roads, and will offer fans the opportunity to meet those drivers and teams, too.

Royalty was crowned Friday night at Steelville High School’s annual homecoming celebration. King Caleb Earney and Queen Cayman Cottrell were crowned between the JV and varsity games in front of a packed gymnasium of Steelville Cardinal fans.
Rural Steelville home destroyed by fire
A Steelville family lost their home to fire on Wednesday night, February 12. The house, located on Highway 8 West, near Thurman Lake Road, was a total loss, despite efforts by local firefighters to contain the blaze.
There were no injuries to fire personnel, but the family lost a pet that was inside the home at the time of the fire. Attempts were made to rescue the dog, but it had succumbed to the heat and smoke.
Steelville civic leader Rosella Roberts will speak live on Public Radio KMST Feb. 24-28. Roberts will be on-air at 11 a.m., Feb. 25. Roberts and other guests will be giving updates about their area of expertise and are among many area leaders speaking on KMST (88.5 FM Rolla and 96.3 FM Lebanon) during the station’s Spring Membership Drive, Feb. 22 – March 2.
