Worker upset about comments made at city meeting
Steelville city employee Cindy Blevins is angry that her work was questioned at the last city council meeting in September. During a discussion on raising rental rates for the Community Building, she was mentioned several times since she is the full-time employee who works in the parks and recreation department, and had been responsible for cleaning the building.

Steelville volunteers with the Steelville Fire Protection District and SFPD Auxiliary visited the elementary on Thursday, October 2 to talk to students about fire safety, hand out some goodies, and let kids see some of the fire equipment up close, all as part of Fire Prevention Week.
“Dream big! It’s fine,” Steelville native Rebecca Jaycox-Boutis told students in the middle school. And she has definitely followed her own advice. She has traveled extensively overseas, has been living in New York City for ten years, and will soon see her first book published. On a recent trip to her hometown, she visited former teacher Jennifer Whitson’s classroom to talk to students about pursuing their dreams and what that has meant in her life. She also spoke with Three Rivers Publishing.
Steelville School Board notes for September 18 meeting
• In school principal reports, SES Principal Lynne Reed discussed teacher evaluations as well as one her staff completed for her. SMS Principal John Bunch reported the middle school will be receiving a grant from the Walmart Distribution Center.
Fireman terminated after arrest
Steelville volunteer firefighter Daniel Jewell was terminated from the Steelville Fire Protection District on Friday, after the board discovered that he had been arrested for alleged child molestation. Jewell, 30, of Steelville, had just recently completed his probationary period with the SFPD, after serving six months with the department.
