Steelville City Council Notes for October
October 6 Meeting
• Charlie Ray, of Missouri Engineering, reported on additional costs of $1,800 for the clearing of the area for water and electric lines for Bear Cat Lodge. The council approved moving forward with the project, provided easements were procured first.
Ambulance district working to get old bills paid
The Steelville Ambulance District is currently seeking payment through the court system from a number of people who have refused to make any sort of payment on their bills. Administrator Bill Patt explained that most of the bills are more than a year old and the total owed to the district is $137,433.
Christmas parade is moving to park
The Christmas parade in Steelville this year is getting a makeover. Instead of the traditional event where participants travel down Main Street lined with spectators, the Steelville Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a drive-through “parade” in the Steelville Community Park on Saturday, December 13 from 6 to 8 p.m.
SMS students honor local veterans with special program - PHOTO GALLERY
Middle school students in Steelville honored local veterans with a special program on Friday, November 13. The event began with lunch, followed by the program, called, “On the Radio: An Entertaining Salute to our Veterans.”
Steelville home destroyed in early morning blaze
A house on Hickory Street in Steelville was destroyed by fire during the early morning hours of Saturday, November 15. The Steelville Fire Protection District was paged at around 1 a.m. to the first alarm residential call, but was unable to prevent the fire from spreading throughout the structure, causing a total loss.
