Plein Air artists are painting Steelville area

    Outdoor artists continue to showcase their work this week while participating in the Second Annual Plain Air Painting Festival, sponsored by the Steelville Arts Council. These artists will wrap up their masterpieces on Friday after a public gala on Thursday evening.

Steelville ‘giant’ could be History Channel feature

    Steelville could once again be featured on the national stage after the History Channel came to town to film a segment for a potential series. Film crews were in the area over the weekend working on a show that is currently in development.

Fire damages one home, destroys another

    Steelville fire personnel responded to two residential fire calls in the last two weeks—one to a mobile home on Bowers Road and the other to a house on Eagle Hurst Road.

City talks street repairs

    Steelville streets need work, but some of the needed repairs could be made without excessive expense, according to the city council. Alderman Mike Pounds and his counterpart Charles Chipman presented a report they prepared on city street conditions to the city council at their meeting on May 19. In that report, over half of the 42 streets listed had been given a “fair” or “poor” rating. Only seven received an “excellent” rating, and of those, three are maintained by the state.
