Art in the Park contest winners announced-PHOTO GALLERY

    Visual and musical art filled the Steelville Community Park on Saturday, April 12 for the Steelville Arts Council’s Art in the Park. The weather was perfect, and a good crowd came out to participate in the daylong event.

Hootenanny Night to be held at Gallery Zeke

Celebrated St. Louis folk artist will be featured guest

Woodystock 2014 will close out its month-long celebration of the legendary American musician and folk troubadour Woody Guthrie this weekend at Gallery Zeke in Steelville. Woodystock has recognized both Guthrie and his musical legacy with Saturday night folk music events at the gallery throughout the month of April.

Fire Auxiliary plans softball tournament

    The Steelville Fire Protection District Auxiliary will host a Cuffs & Ladders softball tournament on June 7 as a fundraiser for Fire Prevention Week activities. Everyone is welcome to gather a team to compete for the championship trophy and bragging rights—and organizers especially encourage first responders—fire and law enforcement departments and EMS crews—to plan to participate. Spectators are also welcome to bring the whole family out for a fun, competitive day of softball, sunshine, and excitement.

City council cuts out summer ball payment

    Steelville aldermen approved a new “Contract for Ball Programs” for the Steelville Sports Club at a special meeting held Monday. The new contract came about as a result of a recent miscommunication between the two entities wherein the Sports Club made alterations to bleachers near the ball diamonds.

FFA has plants for sale

    Vegetables and flowers are now available at the Steelville High School Greenhouse. Students from the greenhouse class and FFA are selling the plants to raise funds to support next year’s greenhouse and other FFA activities. The greenhouse is open every day school is in session from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
