Alderman Charles Chipman resigns from Steelville City Council

    Steelville Alderman Charles Chipman made a final motion to adjourn the city council meeting held on Monday, December 15, the part he played in each meeting he had attended during his tenure. It was a motion his counterparts on the council always looked to him to make. Just before that final motion, Chipman tendered his resignation from the council as of December 31.

    Nominations for the 2014 Citizen of the Year are due to the Steelville Area Chamber of Commerce by December 31.


Council hears complaints about private road usage for lodge construction

    Two Steelville residents are questioning the usage of a private road for heavy equipment traveling to the construction site of the new Bearcat Lodge and for running water lines to the site. Mary Yelton and Francoisa Goudeau brought their concerns about the situation to the city council at the meeting held on December 15. The two share the private roadway with the property owner of the lodge site, Judy Baumstark.

    Abandoned dogs in Steelville will soon have another opportunity to find a new home, thanks to a cooperative effort between the city and a group of volunteers.
