Asphalt work will compliment improvements
During their monthly meeting last week, the St. James Board of Education accepted bids for an asphalt project that will repair areas around the high and elementary schools. West Construction was awarded the winning bid at approximately $100,000 and will lay asphalt at the new entryway at the high school, on the bus lot at the elementary school, and leading into the football field.
School board approves 2014-15 budget
The St. James Board of Education finalized the budget for the fiscal 2014-15 school year and accepted the proposed budget for the upcoming school year during their regular meeting on June 26. Over the course of last year, the district spent some balances down due to the purchase of laptops for the high school, the purchase of a new maintenance vehicle, and some minor budget changes.
Woman saved baby on train
A St. James woman has been recognized by the American Red Cross for assisting with a premature birth on an Amtrak train. Denise Evans will be in the “Salute America” parade on July 3 in Jefferson City.
Holiday weekend bringing fireworks, reunions
Independence Day weekend will be busy in St. James. Along with a fireworks celebration on Friday, the 110th year all school reunion is slated for Saturday. Visitors will get to reunite with fellow classmates and celebrate the many years of St. James history.
