City spending $65,000 for mapping system

    For the past two months, the St. James City Council has been discussing the purchase of GIS mapping and hosting service to map manholes and electrical primary lines. On Monday night, the council passed a resolution to contract with Midland GIS Solutions for mapping services at a cost of $64,722.

Council approves small property tax increase, hears citizen complaint

    A public hearing was held on the proposed tax levy increase during Monday night’s meeting of the St. James city council. No public input was heard and aldermen discussed the tax rate prior to passing the increase of $0.0042.

County clerk to challenge library tax vote after ballot mix-up

    Phelps County Clerk Carol Bennett is challenging the vote on Proposition A, or the James Memorial Library tax, after it was discovered that several voters in Ward 4 received the wrong ballot. At least 11 voters who showed up to the poles received an out-of-city ballot, which did not have the library tax on it, and could not vote on the issue since it was a city only tax.

City will save $187,000 by refinancing pool bonds

    The St. James City Council passed an ordinance Monday night to refinance pool bonds for a savings of $187,000 over the life of the bonds.

Local teenager competes at national finals

    Kayla Copenhaver, soon to be a St. James High School sophomore, attended the National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) at the end of last month, competing against more than 1,500 of the most talented rodeo students in the world. She competed in barrel and pole races and came very close to ending in the top five.
