Huffman wants back on school board

    Former St. James Board of Education board member Gary Huffman, who signed a letter of resignation from the board just two weeks ago, is one of four people who have applied for his former position. Applications for the opening will be accepted through Thursday.

Utility work planned

    St. James Municipal Utility customers are being advised that work will conducted on Saturday, September 27 to replace some pole at the Park Street substation, located downtown adjacent to the Municipal Building. Electric utility customers are asked to limit their electricity use throughout the day as St. James Utility workers and contractors complete the substation maintenance operation.

New library tax vote is Tuesday

    Voters in the city of St. James will return to the polls on Tuesday, Sept. 30, to decide the fate of the James Memorial Public Library. The special election would be for a 30-cent tax on every $100 assessed valuation on personal and real property to support and maintain the public library.

Police investigating hate crime at school

• Superintendent, SJPD chief both say they didn’t receive June email from NAACP about incident allegedly involving racial slur, noose
    St. James Superintendent Dr. Joy Tucker issued a statement on Friday to clarify allegations that an incident of racial discrimination had occurred at the school on June 16. On Monday, St. James Police opened an investigation after being alerted about the issue.

Graduation moved to Sunday at football field

    The St. James Board of Education set a graduation date and location during its September 18 regular meeting of the board. After encountering issues with sectional track meets for the past few years, the board discussed ways to alleviate any issues with sporting events.
