Wildcats knock off Newburg in homecoming game

With point guard Taylor Thompson out for much of the Newburg game due to an ankle injury in the first quarter, it was left up to his fellow seniors to take care of things in his absence. And that they did, with Ryan Bouse, Cameron Williams, and Bryer Nash all scoring in double figures in a 73-55 homecoming victory over the Wolves on Feb. 7.

Girls play well in home loss to Hermann

If there truly is such a thing as a good loss, the Cuba Lady Wildcats surely had one at home against Hermann on Jan. 23. Despite losing by 14 points, the CHS varsity girls showed they can hang with one of the best teams in the entire state.

Cats chop down Arcadia Valley's big men

Size doesn’t always win out in basketball; there are times when speed can be an equalizing factor. The Arcadia Valley Tigers of Ironton learned that lesson when they visited Mike Voigt Gym on Tuesday, Jan. 28. The varsity Wildcat boys overcame mismatches caused by a much taller team by playing a hard-nosed game and making shots when they needed to, especially at the foul line.

CHS girls nip Steelville in Pink Game

Lady Cats Head Coach Nate Boeh described his team’s performance in the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Pink Game with Steelville as “an all-around gutsy performance.” Of course he was pleased that his varsity girls were able to defeat their conference foes 36-34 in a hard-fought contest, which is what fans have come to expect from any matchup between Cuba and Steelville these days.
