Construction going as planned at R-2 Schools

Renovations at the Cuba R-2 School District campus went smoothly this summer, with the interior work finished on schedule and on time for the start of the school year. New construction at the high school is now under way, with a target date of mid-October to finish the outside work. All construction projects should be completed at the campus by Christmastime.

Disaster plan for city almost complete

According to Emergency Preparedness Director Rodney Neff, the city’s emergency plan has been updated and is almost ready to have its changes approved, so that it may be implemented by all departments. There will be one additional meeting held before the final revised plan goes before the council for their okay.

Montgomery taking over grounds department

Jerry Montgomery has been promoted to replace the retiring Buddy Hughes as supervisor of the Grounds Department. He will now oversee a department being renamed Parks & Grounds Maintenance.

Big crowd enjoys Pumpkin Village - PHOTO GALLERY

    Beautiful weather and lots of Halloween fun brought a big crowd out to the 2014 Pumpkin Village in Steelville on Saturday night. There were a wide variety of both fun and scary costumes in evidence and a park full of great activities to enjoy. This was the seventh year for the free event, which is sponsored by the city of Steelville.

Complaints levied against city dog pound

    Steelville’s city pound came under fire at the council meeting held on October 20 when local resident Tammy Livesay criticized what she felt were deplorable conditions for the dogs. City personnel responded with information on improvements that have been made and the struggle to fund the facility appropriately.
