Bash Trash in April with MDC and MoDOT Annual Trash Bash

Missourians from every corner of the state are asked to do spring cleaning outdoors and help fight litter through the state’s annual No MOre Trash! Bash throughout the month of April. The Trash Bash is sponsored by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) as part of their ongoing No MOre Trash! statewide anti-litter campaign.

Little yellow grubs and a swap meet

    I took Sondra Gray and her husband fishing this past week and she caught some really nice smallmouth. All over again I had to explain to her why everyone should return smallmouth to the water, as they are a supreme game fish in the Ozarks, disappearing mostly because our streams are becoming so degraded, and filling in as the water recedes more and more each year. But I gained some ground when I showed her the evidence of the little yellow grubs in the meat.  She doesn’t want to eat them now.

Dogwoods, redbuds could bloom early this year

With anything resembling normal weather, Missouri could see dogwood and redbud blossoms earlier than usual this year. But all bets are off if the thermometer continues the yo-yo behavior seen over the past month.

Gov. Nixon and First Lady Nixon visit Rock Bridge Memorial State Park for 100 Missouri Miles Challenge 2014 Kickoff

• Governor also encourages young people to apply for State Parks Youth Corps, a nationally recognized jobs program for young people to enhance Missouri parks
COLUMBIA – Gov. Jay Nixon and First Lady Georganne Nixon today visited Rock Bridge Memorial State Park in Boone County to launch the second year of the 100 Missouri Miles Challenge. The challenge encourages Missourians to complete “100 Missouri Miles” of physical activity by walking, running, biking, rolling, paddling or hiking throughout Missouri, including Missouri’s State Parks.
