Retiring queen recently competed at state fair
Kelsie Booker, crowned both as Harvest Festival Queen in 2013, and then as Crawford County Fair Queen in 2014, competed in the Missouri State Fair queen contest early in August. She was one of 57 contestants,and an unofficial ranking placed her at number 14 out of the group.

“Run, kayak, get messy” was the theme for the Riverat Challenge held in Steelville on Saturday. The event featured a two-mile run, just over a two-and-a-half mile float, and another half-mile run to a mud-filled obstacle course before the finish line. The challenge was held as a fundraiser to help with improvements needed for the track at the Community Park. The event raised $4,202, with the help of the 110 people who participated.
Community Bettermen judges visit Steelville
Missouri Community Betterment (MCB) judges visited Steelville on Monday, September 8, as part of the annual awards competition for the current year (July 2013 to July 2014). This visit allows community members to showcase the projects that have been accomplished this past year and submitted for consideration for this year’s awards.
Emergency responders hold 9/11 memorial service
Steelville public safety agencies gathered at the Yadkin Creek Square on Thursday to commemorate the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and honor the heroes who gave their lives on that day.

The Steelville Fire Protection District responded to the following calls between September 2 and 8:
• September 4—Two EMS assists: Two landing zone set-ups in Steelville for North Crawford County Ambulance, one requiring assistance at the scene on Highway 8 just before Highway T.
