Teams needed for Cuffs & Ladders softball tourney

    Softball teams can still register for the Steelville Fire Protection District Auxiliary’s Cuffs & Ladders softball tournament scheduled for June 7 at the Steelville Community Park. The auxiliary will host the tournament as a fundraiser for Fire Prevention Week activities. City will seek grant for lodge infrastructure work

    Steelville alderman approved the next step in developing the area for the proposed Bearcat Lodge project at their last city council meeting held April 21. The group agreed to seek a Delta Regional Authority (DRA) grant to help fund the infrastructure improvements that are needed for the project and to open the area for further potential development.

Steelville FFA Chapter wins state T-shirt contest

    Steelville High School’s FFA Chapter won the state FFA convention T-shirt contest at the 86th Missouri FFA Convention in Columbia April 24-25. Mizzou Collegiate FFA sponsored a chapter T-shirt contest for FFA chapters to create and submit a design for the convention T-shirt. The Steelville FFA received $500 for the winning design.

Sawmill storage building burns

    Steelville fire personnel, assisted by Cuba and St. James fire crews and Steelville EMS workers, fought an Easter Sunday fire at a local sawmill. The first alarm, commercial fire was at a large storage building located on West Highway 8. Battalion Chief Joe Smart reported the building contained motors, along with various pieces of equipment and parts for the sawmill, and that the fire completely destroyed the structure and contents.
