SFPD assists with landing zones

    The Steelville Fire Protection District responded to the following calls between September 2 and 8:
    • September 4—Two EMS assists: Two landing zone set-ups in Steelville for North Crawford County Ambulance, one requiring assistance at the scene on Highway 8 just before Highway T.

Harvest Festival week went well

    Harvest Festival 2014 is in the books and the 50th anniversary of the yearly event sponsored by the Steelville Area Chamber of Commerce was one filled with fun for the Steelville community. Activities started on Tuesday after Labor Day and continued throughout the week to conclude on Sunday. The weather was cooperative, and many people contributed their time and talents to make the festival a success.

1925 bank robbery reenacted during Harvest Festival - PHOTO GALLERY

    Shots rang out from the windows and rooftops of downtown Steelville businesses on Saturday as part of the reenactment of the infamous Steelville bank robbery of 1925. The gunfight on Main Street was all part of the true story of bank robbers confronted by a sheriff’s posse when they attempted to make off with $3,095 from the Farmers Bank.

Korte crowned Harvest Festival queen - PHOTO GALLERY

    Maryanne Korte is the 2014 Harvest Festival Queen. She was crowned at the conclusion of the pageant held Thursday night at the Meramec Music Theatre, after also winning the talent portion of the contest. Hannah English was first runner-up, along with interview winner, and Miss Congeniality. Kaytlin Rivera was second runner-up.
