Help is available for domestic violence victims

    October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and this is a problem that continues to plague families from all walks of life. Domestic violence is defined by the U.S. Department of Justice as a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner.  Domestic violence can be physical, sexual, emotional, economic, or psychological actions or threats of actions that influence another person. This includes any behaviors that intimidate, manipulate, humiliate, isolate, frighten, terrorize, coerce, threaten, blame, hurt, injure, or wound someone.

County coming up short on jail revenue

Crawford County is concerned about coming up with the funds to make the November payment on the jail bond this year. The payment due is $323,676.88, and the jail fund currently has just $191,748.27 in it (before October expenses). Commissioners met in the jail conference room on Friday, October 3 to discuss the situation and potential avenues to come up with the necessary money.

    Associate commissioners Kenny Killeen and Paul Watson gave Presiding Commissioner Leo Sanders authority to give the proxy vote for the county for the Steelville Telephone Exchange Board of Directors at the Annual Meeting for the Steelville Telephone Exchange, held at the Steelville High School on Monday, September 8.

Man's girlfriend calls cops about drugs

    The Crawford County Prosecuting Attorney filed the following felony charges between September 16 and 21:
    • Thomas L. Claus, 48, of Cuba, stands charged with class B felony producing a controlled substance, and class C felony possession of a controlled substance.
