The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) will be holding a Lock Up at Matt’s Steakhouse on Thursday, April 24. Participants will be “locked up” until they raise enough money to be “bailed out.” Each inmate will donate an hour of their time, or less if there are time restraints, and are requested to ask friends and family for donations for the cause.
Sales tax receipts down 3.2 percent
During the week of April 10, Phelps County Commissioners:
• Approved a motion to appoint Ron Calhoun, Cameron Schweiss, Randy James, Justin Brown and Sharlene Morgan to the Phelps County On-Site Wastewater Treatment System Board of Review.
Soldier’s body passed through St. James
The body of Army Sergeant Timothy Owens returned to Rolla on Friday, April 11. A procession of the Missouri Highway Patrol and nearly 100 Patriot Guard motorcycle riders escorted the hearse from St. Louis to a funeral home in Dixon. Owens, 37, was killed in the recent mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, and his funeral was held on Saturday in Rolla.
Gov. Nixon orders flags to half-staff in honor of fallen Phelps County soldier
Gov. Jay Nixon has ordered that the U.S. and Missouri flags at state buildings in all 114 counties and the City of St. Louis be flown at half-staff on Saturday, April 12, to honor the bravery and sacrifice of Sergeant Timothy Wayne Owens. Sgt. Owens, age 37, formerly of Rolla, was a soldier in the United States Army serving at Fort Hood, Texas. He died from wounds sustained during an April 2 shooting incident on the Army post.
