The Steelville High School and Middle School cross country team officially opened their 2019 season at Vienna on September 11 and it was a dominating performance by the SHS teams. The varsity boys, varsity girls, and junior varsity boys all returned home with first-place plaques.
With only one senior on the team and none playing at the varsity level, it has to be considered a rebuilding season for the Steelville High School volleyball team this fall. The season officially got underway Monday, but the Lady Cardinals will not play their first home match until September 23.
It’s hard to believe the Steelville High School girls cross country team could lose the greatest runner it ever had and get better, but that’s what the 2019 season is looking like as the Lady Cardinals prepare for their first meet on September 11 in Vienna. Oh yeah, the boys are also going to be great.
Monday, Aug. 12, marks the first day high schools in Missouri can begin practices for their fall sports. In Steelville, that means athletes in cross country and volleyball will begin preparing for their seasons.
Recent Steelville High School graduate Courtney Lea tried out a new sport this spring and did it ever pay off. Although she had never picked up a golf club until March, she is now headed to Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo., as the first signed player on the Eagles new women’s golf team.
