It’s no accident that Heartland Arts (Evans House, 303 Main Street, Steelville) features some of the finest artwork in Missouri. During the month of July, if you’ve had the opportunity to stop by Heartland Arts, then you may have met Sheila Schreiner, the "Accidental Artist."
Sheila has been interested in expressing herself through a variety of artistic means ever since she drew a picture of her cat when she was six years old. Although she has had no formal art training, she credits her talent to DNA. Sheila’s father encouraged her to try various mediums, everything from watercolors to creating art with sticks, stones and feathers she picked up from nature’s abundance. Thus, the term ‘Accidental Artist’ she didn’t plan to become an artist, it just happened along the way.
Over the years, Schreiner has had her artwork on display at county fairs and local art shows. Steelville Arts Council is proud to present her work at Heartland Arts through the the entire month of July. Luckily, there are still a few days left to check out her collection displayed beautifully in the front room of the Evans House. Sheila has a story for each piece in her display. Just sit a spell and ask her to tell you a story about your favorite piece.
Not only is Schreiner fond of art, she is passionate about animals. She has volunteered her time with multiple pet rescue shelters throughout Missouri. She loves Steelville so much that she has agreed to donate 15% of her art sales to Santana’s Hope 4 Paws Rescue Shelter fund. So if you love art and you love puppies, then you’ll love Sheila Schreiner. You just might be accidentally inspired by her joy for what she does.
Heartland Art, Crafts, Gifts & Gallery hours: Thursday, Friday, Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
