Veterans Home seeking donations to help with Christmas gifts

The Missouri Veterans Home-St. James and the Veterans Assistance League is holding their annual Adopt-A-Vet program, which will buy holiday gifts for each resident. The program guarantees veterans residing in the facility have a fun holiday season and the staff hopes to get the community involved by adopting a veteran this Christmas season.

Every $50 guarantees each resident will have a present under the tree for the Christmas. Serving 150 veterans residing in the facility, staff members use this adoption program to help make Christmas a fun experience. The money is pooled and used to buy gifts based on the total that is collected each year.
Over the past several years, many businesses, organizations, and individuals have given to the program and provided exceptional gifts the residents receive during Christmas activities. The money also aids in holding a special lunch celebration for veterans and their families for Christmas.
While veterans living in the facility receive exceptional care, there are no additional resources to purchase anything additional for Christmas. The staff hopes to once again get community support in giving back to the men and women who have served the United States.
Adoptions will be accepted until the goal of gifts for all is achieved. Anyone interested in participating can make and adoption by contacting Lorie Steen, supervisor of Volunteer Services, at 573-265-3271, extension 257 or by visiting the Veterans Home and asking for an application. An adoption form can also be found on the Missouri Veterans Home-St. James Facebook page.
