District to remain in SCEC until end of school year

    Superintendent Dr. Merlyn Johnson spoke to the St. James Board of Education on Thursday, December 19, informing them of a failed attempt to leave the South Central Education Consortium (SCEC), a self-funded insurance consortium made up of local school districts. The district has seen a rise in the cost of health insurance and assessment fees in recent years and Johnson had hoped to get enough votes to dissolve the consortium.
