The Steelville Arts Council (STARCO) will host two workshops for children ages nine to 12 this spring. Both will meet at Heartland Arts, located on Main Street across from First Community National Bank.
“Art Your Trash” will be held on Saturday April 4, from 1 to 3 p.m. Teaching artist Caitlin McCall will lead young artists turn trash into art. Each student will leave with a finished piece of artwork after following the creative process. Materials will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring any recyclables, parts, or random finds to share and use to recreate.
“In Plein Sight” is scheduled for Saturday May 2, also from 1 to 3 p.m. Plein air artists create paintings and drawings outdoors, often depicting beautiful landscapes and architecture. In this workshop, students will focus on the signs along Steelville’s Main Street. Artists will practice lettering and graphic design while creating “en plein air.” Materials will be provided, but students are welcome to bring their own.
These workshops are funded in part by the Arts and Education Council's Bayer Fund Rural Community Arts Program.
