Graduation for the St. James senior class of 2020 will be held on Friday, June 26 at the Multi-Sports Complex, the district announced on Friday. Guests will be limited and social distancing measures will take place to ensure public safety.
District administrators have been working on a way to safely hold the graduation ceremony and an outside ceremony was the best option to keep visitors and graduates safely social distanced while giving graduates as normal a ceremony as possible.
“We have a plan created in order to maintain social distancing and to comply with existing health recommendations for all those involved in the ceremony as well as our guests,” High School Principal Joe Stammers said. “We will block off rows in the bleachers for guests. Seats for the graduates will be on the field and spaced to abide by social-distancing guidelines.”
The event will be held at 7 p.m., with the main gate being opening at 5 p.m. Each graduate will be able to invite four guests, who can bring their own chairs to sit outside of the bleachers if they wish.
Practice for graduation will be held on June 25 at 8 a.m. at the multi-sports complex. Seniors participating will need to bring their caps and gowns for pictures.
Graduation will also be live-streamed and the link will be available on the school’s website at www.stjschools.org. The link will also be shared on social media prior to the event. This will provide another way for those who cannot attend to still see their graduate as they receive their diploma.
In the event of inclement weather, the graduation ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 27 at 7 p.m.
“At the conclusion of the ceremony, all guests should leave the complex in a timely manner,” Stammers said. “We ask that post-graduation pictures and congregating be done off premises to ensure the safety of all guests at the ceremony.”
