There will be no Freedom Fest in Steelville this year to celebrate Independence Day on July 4, but the Steelville Area Chamber of Commerce will still provide fireworks at the community park.
The Chamber, in cooperation with the city of Steelville, decided not to host the annual Fourth of July event that has included vendors and a car show and musical entertainment on the park stage in order to do their part to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Instead, this year, on Saturday, July 4, beginning at 8:40 p.m., the Chamber will have a Salute to America ceremony and present the Chamber’s Business of the Year and Citizen of the Year awards, followed by a fireworks show at 9 p.m.
The community will be allowed to view the display from the park and will be encouraged to practice social distancing. The Chamber will not charge an entrance fee and will only ask for donations.
Although Freedom Fest may look different this year, the Chamber still hopes to provide a fun evening of celebrating our independence.
The Chamber has asked local businesses for help in funding the fireworks display for this year, and offered a variety of sponsorship options, while noting that any donation amount is greatly appreciated.
