Dorothy Pauline Matchell (nee Summers) of Steelville, Missouri was born on Friday, December 9, 1927 in Brazil, Missouri to Charles Edward and Viola Marie (Bouse) Summers and passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at the age of 92 years, 10 months and 25 days.
Dorothy grew up in Berryman, Missouri. She had accepted the Lord early in life and had attended Center Point Baptist Church.
She married Raymond Haffer. She later married Raymond “Ray” C. Matchell on December 11, 1980.
Dorothy worked at Grandpa Pidgeon’s in St. Louis, Missouri then later owned and operated the Berryman Store for 40 years.
She enjoyed going to yard sales, attending church and fishing. She loved to travel, especially in the west and near the mountains.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Viola Summers; parents-in-law, John and Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Rumphel) Matchell; husband, Ray Matchell; daughter, Virginia Pearl Haffer; step daughter, Evelyn (Ed) Matchell; brother, Charles Monroe (Bonnie) Summers; sister, Mamie Lee (Claude) Harris; and granddaughter-in-law, Kim Haffer.
She is survived by her children, Ray (Joan) Haffer of St. Ann, Missouri, Bob (Janet) Haffer of Sullivan, Missouri, Jim (Lana) Haffer of Steelville, Missouri and Mary (Charles) Turner of Farmington, Missouri; step son, Raymond (Sherry) Matchell of DeSoto, Missouri; brother, Charles (Janette) Summers of Ironton, Missouri; sisters, Phyllis (Willard) Love of Ohio, Jane (Bob) Slack of Virginia and Ruth (David) Case of Wyoming; eight grandchildren, Mike (Linda) Edison, Angie (Bill) Norris, Randy Haffer, Billy Haffer, Blake (Andrea) Haffer, Tracey (Jeff) Keeven, Dale (Kelly) Turner and Todd Turner; 15 great grandchildren, Michael, Kaitlyn, Anthony, Nathan, Tori, Brittany, Bethany, Libby, Bailey, Mae, Jessica (Justin), Cassandra, Angela, Rachel and Riley; eight great great grandchildren, Jaden, Jasper, Adelyn, Barrett, Ciana, Hayden, Alivia and Wesley; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, November 9, 2020 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. with Pastor Matt Cook officiating.
Burial was at the Hibler Cemetery in Steelville, Missouri.
Pallbearers are Blake Haffer, Todd Turner, Dale Turner, Jeff Keeven, Randy Haffer and Justin Strong.
