S.A.V.E. Ministry will host its fourth annual heroin awareness and prevention seminar this Saturday, May 15, and will feature several guest speakers who will share their stories of opioid abuse and how drugs affect local communities. The seminar will also offer a $1,000 grand prize essay contest for local students.
This year’s seminar will take place at Rolla’s Tabernacle of Praise Church, beginning at 1 p.m. For the past four years, founders Craig and Gail Daniel have hosted the event, which features guests highlighting the dangers of addiction as well as local resources to help families deal with those struggling.
The Daniels began the awareness program after losing their daughter Veronica Jo Davis to a fentanyl overdose in December of 2016 in St. Louis. She was only 20 years old. They then started the annual seminar with the goal of educating the community on the rising danger of these drugs and what resources are available to families suffering from this issue.
This year, guest speakers include Rolla Police Chief Sean Fagan, St. James EMS Chief Brian Lambeth, Jamie Meyers of Prevention Consultants of Missouri, Christa Harmon, Founder of Mid-MO Addiction Awareness Group, Ashley Brooks of The Rolla Mission, and DEA Agent Frank Magel. S.A.V.E. Ministry testimonials will also be featured and there will be food provided.
Several resources will also be available during the seminar including information from Teen Challenge, Mission Gate, Celebrate Recovery, Alcoholics Victorious, Meramec Regional Planning Commission, Life Changers, Prevention Consultants, Mid-MO Addiction Awareness group, Missouri Coalition Recovery Support Providers, The Rolla Mission, Community Prayer, and S.A.V.E. Ministries.
The seminar is free of charge and the Daniel’s hope to offer information and support to the community. There will be free information from local agencies on a variety of subjects related to addiction, contacts for care and support groups, and people on site to answer any questions the community has. Tabernacle of Praise Church is located at 10730 County Road 2040, Rolla.
