Varsity Cardinals get two road wins

    The Steelville High School varsity boys basketball teams hit the road last week, heading to Owensville and St. James. The varsity Cardinals returned home with victories both nights and improved their season record to 10-6.

    The Steelville High School varsity girls basketball team knocked off Blair Oaks on Saturday to finish third at the Fatima tournament in Westphalia. The Lady Cards beat Eldon in the opening round but fell to Fatima in the semifinals.

Varsity Lady Cards beat top-10 Carl Junction 64-29

    The Steelville Lady Cardinals undoubtedly pulled off the biggest upset at the Carl Junction Shootout on Saturday, knocking off the eighth-ranked Class 5 host team in stunning fashion 64-29. The win moved the Lady Cards to 10-4 overall.

Varsity boys drop two of three at two tournaments

    The Steelville High School varsity boys basketball team reached the third-place game at last week’s Owensville tournament, but couldn’t pull out a victory in the final round. The previous week, the Cardinals won their opening game at the 16-team Park Hills tournament, but then dropped their next two games.

Girls finish third at Park Hills

    The Steelville High School varsity girls basketball team finished third at the Park Hills Central Christmas Tournament, which was played December 26-31. The Lady Cardinals won two of three games, defeating Arcadia Valley and Fredericktown, but losing to Ste. Genevieve in the semifinals.
