MDC urges Missourians to keep wildlife wild

As the weather warms up and more people head outside, they may encounter a variety of newborn animals. Though young wildlife oftentimes appears to be abandoned, that’s usually not the case. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reminds residents that interfering with wildlife can do more harm than good.

Crawford County agent named ‘Outstanding Agent of the Year’ for MDC’s St. Louis region

    The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) employs more than 200 agents throughout the Show-Me State who protect its fish, forest and wildlife resources. Each one shows commitment to that mission, but every year MDC’s St. Louis region recognizes one agent who has gone above and beyond their duties and provided exceptional service with the regional Outstanding Conservation Agent of the Year award. For 2019, the honor was awarded to Conservation Agent Patrice Reese, who serves Crawford County.

Missouri State Parks extends temporary closures through May 3

Out of an abundance of caution and in response to the extension of the statewide “Stay Home Missouri” Order, Missouri State Parks is extending temporary closures of campgrounds, park-run lodging, offices and visitor centers and extending the suspension of special events and programming through May 3. This suspension includes Missouri State Parks special events, including both on- and off-site programming, third party events, group reservations and guided tours.

MDC urges drivers to slow down and give turtles a brake!

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) encourages drivers to be cautious on the roads this spring and give turtles a brake! These reptiles are often hit by cars during the warmer months, but are at special risk this time of year because they are more active.

What birds is worthless and what ones ain’t

    The virus hasn’t made life much different for me because how I live now is not much different than I have always lived. Up here on this isolated ridgetop I call Lightnin’ Ridge, the highest point in this county, I have to spend a lot of time watching the birds that come to Gloria Jean’s bird feeders.
