Summer school in Bourbon kicked off last week and saw a slight decline in enrollment due to concerns of a potential coronavirus outbreak. The school was expecting around 210 kids, however, a little under 200 kids actually attended during the first week of summer classes.

The Bourbon School Board met in an open session on July 16 to discuss the school’s plan to reopen in August. Although the board didn’t land on a definite plan, members did lay out several precautions the district be taking for the upcoming year.
A historic cemetery in Bourbon was recently vandalized. Hill Cemetery located off Route 66 had 29 headstones knocked over or broken. In one instance, a plot had the bench seat removed and tossed at the headstone, shattering it.
An alleged thief was caught after a friend of the victim saw him carrying the stolen property to a car parked along Interstate 44. Anthony Dewayne Smith, 46, of Eldred, Ill. has been charged with class D felony second degree burglary, class E felony first degree property damage, and class A misdemeanor stealing as a result of the incident.
A Bourbon woman faces three felony charges and two misdemeanor charges following an altercation with Crawford County deputies on Sunday, July 5.
