Former Crawford County Sheriff Albert “Al” Charles Engelbrecht, Jr., of Steelville, died on Wednesday, April 8. He served as sheriff for a total of 16 years from 1985-1988 and from 1993-2004.

On April 12, the Crawford County Health Department released information on its fifth positive case of COVID-19 in Crawford County. The case, a female, is currently isolated at home and any household members are quarantined at home. Currently, there are no public exposures associated with this case to announce and known close contacts have been notified.
Crawford County Clerk John Martin provided a first quarter budget review for commissioners at their April 7 meeting. Martin noted, “So far so good, I’m not losing any sleep over it now. I will if we see sales tax tank in the next few months.”
Crawford County Health Department Director Honor Evans provided her weekly update on the COVID-19 situation to the county commissioners at their meeting on April 7. Each week, she gives a report on the numbers of positive, pending, and negative cases, along with those being monitored, isolated or quarantined. She also provides information on current policies and procedures and other news related to the ongoing pandemic.
On April 7, the Crawford County Health Department released information on its fourth positive case of COVID-19 in Crawford County. The individual is a contact to a positive case from another county. The female patient and her family are currently quarantined at home.
