MRPC board learns about possibilities through classes at East Central College

    East Central College (ECC) has an abundance to offer the region with a satellite campus located in Rolla, programs offered through Rolla Technical Institute, and programs offered in high schools throughout the region. Dr. Jon Bauer spoke with the Meramec Regional Planning Commission’s (MRPC) board of directors about the opportunities the college can provide area students and its strategic plan for expansion at the Dec. 12 meeting.

Transportation Advisory Committee decides regions transportation priorities

• Highway 63 and Highway 50 remain at top of list
    The Meramec Region’s Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) decided the expansions of Highways 63 and 50 to four-lane corridors remain the number one and two regional transportation priorities, respectively, at its December meeting. The proposed projects on Highway 63 and Highway 50 have topped the regional priority list for several years.

Festival of Trees event helps children

    Amidst the glitz and glam of the Technicolor Christmas themed Third Annual Festival of Trees event, guests learned that abused and neglected children served by the South Central Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) are 95 per cent more successful in life.

Phelps County PHA begins accepting applications online

    The Phelps County Public Housing Agency (PHA) is now accepting rental assistance applications via a new online application website. The online application allows for greater accessibility of qualifying individuals. The online application can be found at phelpsco.housingmanager.com.

Director of MO Department of Economic Development speaks with MRPC board

    Rob Dixon, director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development (MoDED), was the guest speaker at the Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) board meeting Nov. 14. Dixon updated the board on the restructuring of MoDED and how the agency is now able to truly focus on economic development. He also discussed workforce issues, broadband and opportunity zones.
