The Steelville High School varsity boys basketball team is headed to the championship of the Owensville tournament, which they won last year. The final round was scheduled for Saturday, but was postponed due to the weather and has yet to be rescheduled (as of Tuesday morning).
The Steelville High School girls basketball teams hosted St. James on January 9 in a highly anticipated rematch of last year’s district championship game on the varsity level. The Lady Tigers won that district game and also got the victory last week.
The Steelville High School varsity girls basketball sank nine three pointers from five different players in a 57-40 victory over Belle to open Gasconade Valley Conference play at home Monday night. The Lady Cardinals are now 8-2 overall, with a big test coming up against St. James on Thursday.
The Steelville varsity girls basketball team battled their way to the finals of the 64th Annual Bob Sechrest Jr. Central Christmas Tournament in Park Hills last week, but fell to Ste. Genevieve in the championship game in double overtime on New Year’s Eve. After falling behind by as many as 21 points in the first half, the Lady Cards ultimately lost by just four, 78-74.
The Steelville Lady Cardinals have been seeded first for next week’s Fatima Comet Classic Girls Basketball Tournament, which is scheduled to get underway Monday in Westphalia.
