Post-season baseball honors have started coming in for the Steelville Cardinals. Three players have been named to this year’s all-district teams.
The Steelville High School varsity baseball team went 1-1 in the Class 3 District 9 tournament at Cuba to end the season. The Cardinals got a first-round win over Dixon, but lost to top-seeded Fatima in the semifinals.
The Steelville High School baseball team closed out the regular season last week and had a great chance to win their final two games. The Cardinals gave up a big lead in Cuba, however, and came up just short after rallying in the final inning against Owensville.
The Steelville High School track teams won three events and qualified for the state finals in a total of 14 events during Saturday’s Class 2 Sectional 2 meet at South Callaway High School in Mokane. The state finals are scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Jefferson City.
The Steelville Middle School track teams closed out their season last week with a pair of meets at Cuba and Union. At the 13-team Cuba meet on April 29, both squads came home with first place.
