Melayna Brown and Logan Ray have been the top runners on the Cuba High School cross country team all year long, consistently having the best race finish times for the CHS girls and boys teams. Their hard work paid dividends on Saturday, as the two runners both qualified for the state cross country meet by running well in the Class 2, District 5 competition that was held at St. Francis Borgia High School in Washington.
The Cuba Wildcats will advance to the semifinals of the Class 2, District 2 football playoffs after getting revenge against the Principia Panthers in a quarterfinal rematch last weekend.
Melayna Brown finished among the top seven runners in last week’s Gasconade Valley Conference cross country championships held at Viburnum, thereby earning all-GVC honors. Brown, a sophomore at Cuba High School, finished fourth overall in the conference varsity girls run. She ran the 5000 meters race in a time of 24:23.22.
The Lady Wildcats of Cuba High ended their fall volleyball season with a loss to Fatima in the district tournament semifinals this week. The Lady Cats ended their 2019 campaign by compiling a 5-17-3 record.
The Cuba Wildcats lost a hard-fought but evenly-matched battle with the Principia Panthers last Friday on Senior Night at the Field of Pride, and that loss means the Cats get a rematch with the Panthers this weekend at their place in the opening round of district football playoffs.
