The Cuba Lady Wildcats (2-15) got the #4 seed in the District 2, Class 8 softball playoff tournament this week and were scheduled to play Hermann (1-12), the #5 seed, in the first round on Wednesday; but that game has been forfeited by Hermann to the Lady Wildcats. Cuba advances into the second round of games to be played on Thursday.
The St. Pius X Lancers scored early and often against the Cuba Wildcats last week, winning handily in a 43-22 game that was never really close. The Wildcats are looking to turn the page on that road loss, as they return home this Friday night for a homecoming matchup with Missouri Military Academy.
The Cuba Middle School girls finished in sixth place among teams running in the Belle Invitational cross country meet on September 26. The Lady Wildcats had 10 runners in the competition, and their best finish came from Kaylee Fulliam, who took ninth place overall in a time of 14:08.90.
Any way you want to slice it, last week’s 30-13 road victory for the Cuba Wildcats at St. James was huge. It was the first signature win for Head Coach Tim Duarte, after he took over the Cuba football program this year; it was the second consecutive win for the Wildcats, after they had defeated Grandview at home the week before; and it was only the second time in school history that Cuba’s varsity team has defeated St. James.
The Belle Lady Tigers and Cuba Lady Wildcats combined for 22 runs, 27 hits, and eight errors in a wild one played at Belle on Tuesday, September 24. The Tigers held off the Wildcats 12-10, despite Cuba scoring seven runs late in the game and rallying for three runs in the last inning.
