Council approves new cemetery rules

    New rules have been approved for the St. James Cemetery after three months of discussion by the St. James City Council. The council voted Monday night on an ordinance outlining what decorations can be placed on or near headstones to allow park workers to more efficiently maintain the property.

Phelps County to receive $5.2 million through CARES Act

    The Phelps County Commissioner recently approved the acceptance of more than $5.2 million through the federal CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) act to help with local COVID-19 relief efforts. Commissioners now are seeking guidance as to how the money can be spent.

Council tables proposal closing street for medical marijuana manufacturer

    At its meeting on May 5, the Cuba City Council considered an ordinance that would have closed a dead-end portion of Commerce Avenue in the Industrial Park in front of Green Farms’ location for a new medical marijuana manufacturing facility. With more questions than answers after discussing the proposal, the issue was removed from future council agendas, although it could be resurrected.
