The St. James High School wrestling team got five wrestlers out of district competition to the Missouri Wrestling Championships, to be held Thursday through Saturday at the Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
Andrew Branson thought he had broken the St. James High School boys’ basketball single-game scoring record last year, only to find out that a 47-point outburst decades earlier had been overlooked. On Valentine’s Day Branson finally got the record by a point.
It took more than a month, but the Steelville High School varsity boys are the champions of the Owensville basketball tournament.
For the third year in a row, the Steelville varsity girls basketball team has captured the championship of the Newburg tournament. The Lady Cardinals brought home the first-place trophy by beating the home team in a thrilling championship game on Saturday afternoon.
After a pair of regular season wins and finally finishing the Owensville tournament (see related story), the Steelville High School varsity boys basketball team is 18-2 overall and 2-0 in Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) play. The Cardinals have just four games left in the regular season, all against GVC opponents.
The varsity Lady Wildcats basketball team reached the third-place game at last week’s Newburg tournament, but came up short in the final round to Crocker. The Lady Cats got an opening round win over Bourbon and lost to Newburg in the semifinals. Steelville won the tourney, defeating Newburg.
