A different kind of bait

    I spent a few days living on my camp-boat last week on Truman Lake. It is a hard-topped pontoon boat, custom-built for me with no furniture on it and attachable canvas-type cover with screened windows and doors built in. On board I have attached small cabinets and a big box that holds cooking utensils and sleeping bags and air mattresses.

    The spring turkey season is one of the most exciting three weeks of the year for me as an outdoorsman, and untold numbers of other Missouri turkey hunters. Spring is a long awaited reprieve from the grip of winter and a grand enjoyment of the newest of life that arrives with spring. Sharing a turkey hunt with someone else is a remarkable way to get to know them.

May 16-22 is National Safe Boating Week

    Colonel Eric T. Olson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, would like to stress the importance of safe boating by making the public aware of National Safe Boating Week, which takes place May 16-22, 2020.

MDC reports spring turkey season ended with 41,454 birds harvested

Preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) shows that turkey hunters checked 38,730 birds during Missouri’s 2020 regular spring turkey season, April 20 through May 10. Top harvest counties were Franklin with 899 birds harvested, Callaway with 699, and Laclede with 651.

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reminds hunters and anglers that squirrel and black bass season opens May 23, the Saturday before Memorial Day.
