Police salaries topic of continued discussions

    The hiring of two new police officers during the March 2 meeting of the Cuba City Council led to a discussion of police salaries that ultimately led to a special meeting being called on March 9. After a lengthy discussion on what to pay new and existing officers, the issue was tabled until the council looks at the 2021-22 budget, which must be approved by June 30.

CHS teacher honored

 Cuba High School announced Monday that CHS math teacher Jaclyn Campos has been selected as an Outstanding Beginning Teacher by the Missouri Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. Campos is a first-year teacher and graduate of Cuba High School and Missouri S&T in Rolla.

CHS dancers compete at state

The Cuba High School dance team competed at the state competition on February 27 and finished third in Hip-Hop and fourth in Prop. All the eligible girls (non-freshmen) on this year’s team also received awards for Academic All-State, with Baylee Marquez getting top honors with a 4.0 grade point average.

Chamber welcomes Grey Eagle to Cuba

    Members of the Cuba Area Chamber of Commerce gathered at Grey Eagle Distributors last week to officially welcome the company to Cuba. Grey Eagle, which is headquartered in the St. Louis area and is Missouri’s largest Anheuser-Busch distributor, purchased Mullally Distributing in February.
